.44 cent Cole Slaw Supper Hit

One of the interesting things about my couponing adventures is that ever once in a while I will try something new only because I found a great deal.
A .44 cent bag of fresh cabbaged turned out to be a family favorite. I normally do not buy those packaged salads, however, on of my grocery stores had a sale on Fresh Express bagged cabbage. It was called Angel Hair Cole Slaw – Fine Shred Cabbage. Nothing added, just cabbage and it was only .44 cents with the store sale and my coupons — so I thought I would try it.
On the back of the package I found a recipe that I thought I would try.  It was for a Memphis Style dressing for a really quick cole slaw. Perfect for hamburgers or sandwiches.
Memphis-Style Dressing
1/4 cup of mayonnaise
1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup of sugar ( I used honey instead)
1 tsp. of ground celery seed
Pour cider vinegar into a bowl, then add the sugar (or honey for a healthy alternative).  Stir.  In a separate bowl, add mayonnaise and ground celery seed together.  Stir in vinegar mix.  Whisk until smooth.  Toss with shredded cabbage.
I actually added all the ingredients in one bowl together and used a whisk and it worked out fine.  I did let mine sit in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes while I finished up supper.  My children normally would not eat cole slaw, but being the first time I “home-made” it, it was a big hit.
It tasted nothing like what you would get out of a pre-packaged container or at a restaurant.  Love the homemade goodness — and it was quick and easy to prepare!
Next time, I will use a head of cabbage and shred it myself unless I can find another deal on already shredded cabbage.
