Don't worry...you are not crazy for thinking you could raise and process your own meat..... Remember most Americans lived that way, the rural farm life, up until the massive lifestyle changes the industrial revolution brought us over the last hundred years. It was a normal part of life for families for thousands of years...... For the first time in WORLD HISTORY, in 2008 more people will live in cities than in the country!

Sambucol -- Great stuff! We had a viral cold also not too long ago and it worked wonders. If I have it on hand, I can give it to the first sign of a runny nose or cough and it either prevents a cold entirely or shortens the duration of it for sure....amazing stuff!

However, the bottle sizes are not exactly for larger families.... It is much cheaper through vitacost and anything you order from vitacost when you click on the links from my site does credit us back a percentage. Even if you click on a prenatal vitamin link...and do not buy that but search for something else...it credits it as coming from my website.

I am need to order a bulk amount of that stuff and keep it in my pantry.

Bethany-
Thanks for the great post!! I was just looking to order a Joel Salatin book yesterday!
It is encouraging to see someone doing what we'd like to be doing. Sometimes I think we're crazy for even thinking that we could do something like raise and process our own chickens.
Thanks again for the info,
Kelli

Hey - I ordered some Sambucol from Vitacost and I got there by clicking from the link on your site here - do you get credit for anything? I think you've answered this for me before....

Anyway - the Sambucol on Vitacost is 50% less than at Sun Harvest!!!! I'm SO excited! We are all sick with viral stuff right now and going through a $15.00 bottle of sambucol each day! But it's working - our coughing is only 1/2 as bad as it was yesterday!!

Spending time on my Grandparents farm when I was young was such a great experience. I really wish my kids could have the same experience but I did not marry a man who has ANY DESIRE AT ALL to be a "farmer" -- even though it is his geneological heritage to farm or do something like that. Oh well. I can honestly say that at this point in my life - I'm so ready to say goodbye to all my "busyness" and pull roots and head to the hills - just, if for anything, more "together time". When the computers and TV are unplugged - it's just amazing how much better we all get along with each other! LOL!!

Anyway, on the little farm in Center Point, we grew all our own meat. Turkeys, Cows, Chickens, Pigs. We had horses, doves, dogs, cats...you name it! We also grew most of all our food - veggies and fruits. We also had tons of pecan trees and I think we had an almond tree once. We *only* had 10 acres. It wasn't a huge amount of land - but it was enough to entertain 3 children, 1 mother, 2 grandparents, 1 great grandparent and then the "undocumented worker" that stayed in the workshop.... as well as all the animals and gardening.

Those were good days. I'd give anything to go back.

I admire you guys - even if at times I think you are absolutely crazy - I do admire what you are doing!
