Sourdough Bread Results

The first batch was edible. In the midst of a busy house, I accidentally skipped a step and added some ingredients when I should have let it proof before. But even with a major mess up, it actually turned out to still be bread. It was very dense, not very pretty but still tasty I learned it is hard to really mess up sourdough—it still was good.
The second batch of baguettes turned out wonderful. VERY tasty, perfect texture and went great with supper.
Two more loaves rising and two more about to be mixed up and me trying to figure out how to make the sourdough bread system work for a family that eats the bread up about as fast as it comes out of the oven. The first change will be doubling the recipe now that I know it works 😉 Next, I will probably figure out how to make up the dough and freeze it in loaf sizes ready to be thawed and rise in a loaf pan when needed.

    Hi there,
    I am enjoying your recent posts, as I’ve been trying to do more from scratch cooking. Do you have any experience making yogurt? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this: whether it’s worth doing, if the yogurt makers are worth the money, etc.

    No, I haven’t ventured into yogurt making yet although that has been something that I have thought about doing as well. My ultimate dream would be to make my own breads as well as cheeses, yogurts….and soaps 😉
    Last year I was making my own Kefir, which is similar to a plain yogurt. It is made by using Kefir grains (you could search about how to do it online) that you culture milk. I was using fresh milk to make my kefir. Because it was a new thing for me, I wasn’t exactly sure of what I was doing and didn’t keep it up after I was unable to get fresh milk. I have since found out that I could have kept it going with store bought milk.

    Thanks for taking the time to answer. I think I will buy plain yogurt for a while to get everybody used to eating non factory sweetened yogurt, mixed with fruit or natural jam, and then see if it goes over. Then I might ask for a yogurt maker for Christmas. (-:
