Diet For Pregnant and Lactating Mothers

I have been following the “Raw Milk” issue here in Tennessee. In 33 out of the 50 states it is legal to sell raw milk. Tennessee happens to be one of those states where it is illegal. However, for those who diligently seek raw milk, you can get it in the local Amish communities. I am hoping to get a cow! However, because of space and time, a milk goat will have to suffice.
In my research and search for raw milk, I ran across this group: Weston A. Price Foundation. Although I don’t personally agree with every point they make…it is a different sort of thinking about nutrition than what we are told to think. My goal is to remove the modern American processed foods from our diet and replace with whole foods that our great grandparents grew up on–food from the farm.
For example here is the Weston A. Price recommended diet for the pregnant and lactating mother:
Diet for Pregnant and Nursing Mothers
1 tablespoon cod liver oil daily, (mixed with water or a little fresh juice)
2 8-ounce glasses whole milk daily, preferably raw and from pasture-fed cows (learn more about raw milk on our website, A Campaign for Real Milk, www.realmilk.com)
4 tablespoons butter daily, preferably from pasture-fed cows
2 or more eggs daily, preferably from pastured chickens
Additional egg yolks daily, added to smoothies, salad dressings, scrambled eggs, etc.
3-4 ounces fresh liver, once or twice per week
Fresh seafood, 2-4 times per week, particularly wild salmon, shellfish and fish eggs
Fresh beef or lamb daily, always consumed with the fat
Oily fish or lard daily, for vitamin D
2 tablespoons coconut oil daily, used in cooking or smoothies, etc.
Lacto-fermented condiments and beverages
Bone broths used in soups, stews and sauces
Soaked whole grains
Fresh vegetables and fruits
AVOID:
* Trans fatty acids (e.g., hydrogenated oils)
* Junk foods
* Commercial fried foods
* Sugar
* White flour
* Soft drinks
* Caffeine
* Alcohol
* Cigarettes
* Drugs (even prescription drugs)

    So, why is it important to consume the fat with fresh lamb or beef? That is odd, I have never heard of that before.

    I will post a comment to the fat question on the blog. I am actually not exactly sure why you would eat it with the meat. Does that mean eat your meat with some fat because it digests better??? I don’t know yet on that one.

    actually…the raw meat suggestion is personally disgusting to me and I question it according to if that is safe. Biblically–isn’t eating meat with the blood not acceptable or safe? admin

    Two more things I thought of….What the Bible says about Healthy Living by Rex Russell is an good read on what the Bible says about the foods we eat.
    Also…I don’t know where you live in Tenn., (read the blog saying you were near tornados) but I live in North Mississippi under Memphis Tenn. and I buy raw goat milk from a lady here…until we get our own :). If your close enough you might be interested in buying or talking to her about milking your own. It can be frozen for future use. Or maybe she would know someone who milks in your area.
